The company was founded in 1996 and has developed since then. In 2006, it took its current form as a limited liability company. We specialise in flannel board stories, and over the years the range of stories has expanded with more educational products.
The colourful, high-quality fairy tales from Flano Design place emphasis on a well-paced story, careful choice of words and methodology for meeting course plan requirements. We are keenly aware of how important participation and reflection are to children’s linguistic development. This is why we combine a wide range of flannel board stories from well-known classics with newer stories produced in-house. No matter which story you choose, you are always ensured the highest quality and colourful designs.
Who do we target?
Educationalists in pre-school and primary schools throughout Sweden use the licenced or in-house produced fairy tales and stories for children aged from around 1 to 9 years old. The strength of these flannel board stories lies in their appeal to the heart and the brain, where words, pictures, colours and shapes together connect in the narrative tradition where the children participate on their own premises.
In the resulting dialogue, everyone can take part and be recognised and accepted as a truly unique individual.
How does the flannel board story work?
Through active participation in the story, children develop knowledge and learn to interact. This is where a creative, productive and long-term foundation is created which encourages linguistic development, self-esteem and an improved understanding of new situations and unknown futures. At the same time, we preserve a piece of the Swedish cultural heritage. I am sure many of you have special and fond memories of Pippi Longstocking, The Tale of the Little, Little Old Woman, Alfie Atkins, Anna and the Tall Uncle, or The Little Spook Laban.
The colourful pictures are printed on felt – simply cut them out and then stick them onto the flannel board.
